Piano Restoration and Rebuilding for Hartford

Restoring pianos for Hartford, CT

The Hartt School keeps a steady population of serious instruments in and around Hartford, and the city sits on our New England route.

We rebuild fine pianos for Hartford owners, Steinway, Baldwin, Mason & Hamlin and many others, at our own facility: restringing, pinblock and soundboard replacement, complete action rebuilds and hand refinishing.

What we take on for Hartford customers

Major repair and full restoration only, at our shop in Buffalo. No tuning, regulation or minor repairs in Hartford: those belong to a technician near you, and we would rather say so than sell you a long-distance callout. Getting the piano here is our problem, not yours. See how our service area works.

Working with central Connecticut

A conservatory changes a city's piano stock. Students, faculty and the teaching studios that grow up around them all need instruments that behave, and when one stops behaving it gets attention rather than being written off.

The Bushnell has presented touring performance in Hartford for close to a century, and the churches and independent schools across central Connecticut hold a great many instruments of the same generation.

Hartford is on the same corridor as our Boston and Providence work, so a collection here rarely travels alone. That keeps the transport component of a quote sensible.

Frequently Asked Questions

My piano is used for teaching every day. Will it come back able to take that?

That is what a proper rebuild is for. New keytops, bushings, hammers, shanks, flanges and wippens, then regulation, gives you an action built to be used rather than nursed.

Do you appraise instruments?

Yes, for insurance, estates and sales. Because we also rebuild and sell, our valuations reflect what a piano of that make, age and condition is genuinely worth now rather than a book figure.

Would you travel to Hartford for a repair?

No. Outside Western New York our work is major repair and full restoration, with the instrument coming to Buffalo. A local technician is the right answer for tuning, regulation or a small fix.

How is the piano protected in transit?

Wrapped and secured for the journey by piano movers, not general freight. Hartford is beyond our own truck's range, so we use our partner movers and coordinate the whole job ourselves.
