Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I have my piano tuned?

Twice a year suits most home instruments. Pianos used for teaching, worship or performance are usually tuned more often, and a concert instrument may be touched up before each event. New and newly rebuilt pianos need more frequent attention in their first year while the strings stretch and settle.

My piano has not been tuned in years. Can it be brought back?

Almost always. A piano that has dropped well below pitch needs a pitch raise first, which brings the whole instrument roughly up to A440, followed by a fine tuning once the tension has stabilised. Our technician will tell you honestly on the visit whether one appointment or two is realistic.

Do you handle repairs as well as tuning?

Yes. Whether you need a touch-up before an imminent concert, maintenance tuning for a home instrument, or more extensive repairs to an old family heirloom, our staff can bring the piano back to its optimum performance capability, backed by a shop that is second to none in its facilities and expertise.

Can you appraise a piano for insurance or an estate?

We appraise pianos regularly for insurance, estates and sales. Because we also rebuild and sell instruments, our valuations reflect what a piano of that make, age and condition is genuinely worth in the current market.

Which areas do your technicians cover?

Buffalo and the surrounding Erie and Niagara county communities, including Amherst, Williamsville, Clarence, Cheektowaga, Orchard Park, Hamburg, Kenmore, Tonawanda and Niagara Falls.
